Our Outback town, has once again been recognised as one of the premier tourism destinations after being named a finalist in this year’s Queensland ‘Top Tourism Town’ Awards. The annual awards are presented by the Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) and recognises outstanding regional destinations that demonstrate a commitment to visitor excellence.
After an extensive judging process by a panel of tourism experts, Hughenden is now just one step away from being Queensland’s ‘Top Tiny Tourism Town’, with the public now invited to help decide the 2023 winner. The awards winners are decided by public voting, which closes at 5 pm on Wednesday 24 May.
Flinders Shire Mayor Jane McNamara expressed her delight at Hughenden’s nomination and urged everyone to vote. “This nomination is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our community in providing an unforgettable and exceptional visitor experience,” said Cr McNamara.
Hughenden’s attractions include the stunning sunsets at Mount Walker, exciting camp drafts and race days, the breathtaking Porcupine Gorge, and the tranquil Hughenden Recreational Lake. It also has a unique dinosaur history that has made it a must-visit destination on any trip to Outback Queensland.
“This nomination is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our community in providing an unforgettable and exceptional visitor experience,” said Cr McNamara. “Whether you are looking for adventure or relaxation, Hughenden offers something for everyone. Our one-of-a-kind natural attractions and endless horizons, super-friendly easy-going locals, and of course our dinosaur history, mean we are a must-visit destination on any trip to Outback Queensland.”
The winners will be announced at 11 am on Thursday, 25 May. The State winners will represent Queensland at the National Awards and will have the chance to be named Australia’s Top Tourism Town.
